DAVID ACKERMAN

james
Festival Manager

Born and raised in central New York, just outside of Syracuse, Dave studied for the ministry with a secondary major in psychology.

Early in his career, he decided to enter the floral industry, originally in the retail side of the business and eventually working in the wholesale end. Dave lived in Philadelphia and its western suburbs through his twenties and discovered international and independent film on his weekly (sometimes more) visits to the Theater of Living Arts on South Street and The Ritz in Old City. Here he took Mechanical Drafting, Auto Cad, Acting and he even did a stint on a volunteer ambulance crew!

In 1992 Dave moved to Rehoboth Beach Delaware where he soon began his third career as the Sales and Marketing Director for an ocean front hotel. He joined the Rehoboth Outlets team in 1999. As an integral part of his position he became involved in many local causes and served as a member of the board of directors on a number of events and organizations including: Raise The Roof, a fundraiser to rebuild convention hall, The Rehoboth Beach Jazz Festival (where he was also the Jazz Parade chair for four years) The Rehoboth Beach Film Society (which produces the Rehoboth Beach Independent Film Festival), Southern Delaware Tourism, The Delaware Group Tour Coalition, and The Moveable Feast of Baltimore. Dave served for twelve years as the chairman and ground activities director for the Great Delaware Kite Festival, was a founding member of the Delaware Speakers Bureau and was one of a team of three who created a comprehensive professional development training and certification program (called Destination Delaware) for the tourism industry. Dave became the Tourism Development Director for Charter Oak Partners (the parent company for Rehoboth Outlets) and represented the entire portfolio of twelve shopping centers in eleven states. When the company was sold, Dave took a position in North West Washington State and managed an outdoor shopping center in Burlington Washington. While there, he became a board member of the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival which draws 400,000 annual visitors to the pristine valley.

Dave was delighted to serve as a director of the Historic Lincoln Theater in Mount Vernon Washington, a grand old movie house which has become a cultural resource for the entire Skagit Valley presenting independent films, live theater and cultural festivals on its annual calendar. Upon the sale of the shopping center in Washington, Dave returned briefly to the Delaware Coast to manage an ocean front condominium complex before heading south to Orlando to be the Marketing Director for Orlando Fashion Square and where he settled with his two furry feline companions; Miss Lucy and Dillon.
